Spring Beauty Tips

How did you come to work at The Beauty Room at The Lodge at Ashford Castle?

When Red Carnation Hotels bought the Ashford Estate in 2013, I saw an opportunity for the Beauty Room at The Lodge. The rest, as they say, is history!”

Can you tell us a bit about the treatments available at The Beauty Room?

“I offer a full range of beauty treatments at The Lodge, but I specialise in facials, professional make up application and bodycare. We offer also quite a few packages for brides as The Lodge is a popular wedding destination. Our pre-wedding facials are a great way to ensure that skin is at its best for the big day, whilst bridal make up application guarantees that brides remain looking radiant and flawless throughout the day.”

What treatments do you tend to recommend for frequent travellers?

“For clients suffering the effects of a long flight, my first port of call is a relaxing facial. This helps decongest skin and restore hydration levels as airplane environments can have notoriously drying effects on the complexion. It’s also an incredibly soothing and sleep-inducing treatment for those who are dealing with jet lag, or simply lack of sleep in general.”

As the seasons begin to change, what tips and tricks should we be incorporating into our beauty regimes?

“For me, a change in seasons is a good time to reassess skin’s moisture requirements. The harsher winter months call for richer creams but, as the days get warmer, you may want to consider light, water-based serums and lotions. Daily sunscreen application is a non-negotiable for me, and as we move from winter to spring, I typically recommend increased exfoliation to slough away dead skin cells.”

What, in your opinion, are the key changes to make in order to spring clean existing routines?

“It’s always best to visit your skin care or beauty therapist for a thorough evaluation of your current routine and how you can best incorporate new products or treatments for maximum results. At the Beauty Room at The Lodge, we offer a full skin analysis in addition to facial mapping, which helps us really understand what each client’s skin is in need of and what’s going to work best for them.”

What are your top beauty and wellness tips that we should try to keep up all year round?

“My year-round beauty and wellness tips are simple. Ensure that you get plenty of sleep and enjoy a consistently good diet. Commit to a good skin care routine and try to exercise daily, even if it’s just a brisk 20-minute walk. I also think it’s so important to take time out for yourself on a daily basis – even just 10 minutes to switch off – because allowing yourself to be still and your mind to be quiet really does improve mental and physical wellness.”

You grew up near The Lodge at Ashford Castle, what are your favourite things to do in the local area?

“My favourite activity is walking my dog in the ancient woods of the Estate. The landscape is so beautiful and unspoilt; it’s a great way to unwind and, for me, it really is a piece of heaven.”
